Jean Cartier - History. Jean Cartier was born in 1924 in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. He was schooled in classical studies at the Institute Classique et Commercial de Montreal. At the age of 21, Cartier studied ceramics with Adriene Villandré in St. Jean. He then enrolled in L'Ecole Du Meuble de Montreal (Montreal Furniture School) ceramics program.
