If it can be helped, destroy the stairs and use sheet ropes to gain access to higher levels. For some reason, sleeping in your base with NPCs sometimes causes them to randomly die if they climb stairs in the area.Lowered Npc spawn to extremely low or whatever the lowest setting is. Get Subpar Survivors. It's an extra mod that goes along with the other and helps with fps. Prepare for the first half a day to full day to be laggy. For some reason when I spawn in fresh it's really slow. Don't do the prison spawn. Starts really laggy.
