The water pump helps circulate coolant through the radiator tubes, where it cools. The cool coolant then spreads into the engine components through the engine’s pipes or passage. With the pump bad, there won’t be anything to circulate coolant to the radiator.It isn't a Polaris and you shouldn't have to worry about the temp much. Scratches down in low snow, let it cool if the temp light comes on. The caps can leak, you probably have that fixed by bending the tabs a little. Check the small diameter hose that goes from the over flow bottle to the top of the radiator on the passenger side. Check all the other hoses too. I had a similar problem about the coolant a couple of years ago and it was that small hose leaking a little. .
